About Us

Merridee Hansen Farr

Owner of The Barking Cat Park City UTAH.

Years ago, as an owner of five dogs, Merridee started to envision a solution for all pet needs locally.  Because she had lived in Park City since 1983, completed her undergraduate requirements at Westminster College and then obtained a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Utah, she felt she had the passion, local focus and know-how to create a Park City option for pet care needs. From the beginning, she was clear that the business she wanted to launch would provide the quality service often associated with smaller businesses, as well as the best products on the market.

In July of 2014 the doors of The Barking Cat opened to the public and Merridee’s dreams became a reality.

There are countless pet owners in Park City who share her belief that our pets deserve products that will enhance their health, enrich their lives and increase their longevity.  The brands of food that are carried in the store have been carefully researched, are nutritionally dense and are the best on the market. In addition to premium foods, The Barking Cat offers limited ingredient treats, eco-friendly interactive toys for dogs and cats, collars for felines and canines, leashes and all necessities to care for all the special fur babies of Park City.  The big, shiny cherry on top for pet owners is the Barkery – a case full of custom cookies, cakes, and whoopie pies that all have dog-friendly ingredients.

Merridee’s goal is to develop lasting and supportive relationships with the customers and their pets. She is proud of the fact that the staff is not only friendly but extremely knowledgeable about the products.  At The Barking Cat the mantra is: “If we don’t have the product, we will order it - if we don’t have the answer, we will find it!”

Merridee values the many Parkites who support small business owners and make a point of shopping in her store where she proudly displays the #PCNative and #Womenowned emblems on the front doors of the shop.  She encourages all shoppers to bring in their pets, snatch a free pet treat and get in on the Facebook/Instagram photo opportunities.
